Very hard test to start the Copa del Rey 2021 against host Real Madrid

10/02/2021

Valencia Basket opens its participation in the Copa del Rey de Madrid 2021 tomorrow facing the host, Real Madrid (Thursday 11, 9:30 p.m., Wizink Center, #Vamos), in the second game of the opening day of this tournament that will be played in the capital of Spain until February 14.

In an edition marked by restrictions to guarantee health security and, as a consequence, the absence of the public in the stands, the Taronja expedition has set course for Madrid with the absences of Fernando San Emeterio and Joan Sastre, although it recovers in the group a two players who missed last Endesa League’s game: forward Nikola Kalinic and point guard Guillem Vives.

To begin their 22nd participation in this tournament, Jaume Ponsarnau's men have the very tough challenge of beating Real Madrid for the first time in this competition, as the previous three have finished with a white victory. The last of them, the final of the 2017 edition in which the taronja team almost touched the title.

Valencia Basket puts into play its streak of twelve consecutive victories in national competition against an opponent who has only lost one Endesa League match in the entire season, but with the memory of the triumph the taronja squad achieved in the same court where the match will be played tomorrow at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, when Valencia Basket beat Real Madrid by 77-93 at the Wizink Center in October.
