Valencia Basket has secured the rights to one of the top passers in the NCAA who is finishing his college career in the United States with the addition of point guard Álvaro Cárdenas (1.85m, Granada, 04/29/2002, 23 years old), who has signed with the “taronja” club for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2027. The Club believes in the potential and room for growth of the Granada-born player, who wrapped up his senior season at Boise State University, averaging 11.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He was the top passer in the Mountain West Conference. He ranked 11th in all of NCAA Division I in the metric that measures ball-handling and the ability to create quality shot opportunities for teammates, with a Pure Point Rating of 6.4. Last summer, Cárdenas participated in training camp with the Spanish U-22 national team under coach Jaume Ponsarnau.
The sporting director of our men's first team, Luis Arbalejo, commented on the signing, stating: “This is a move made with an eye on the future. Álvaro has developed significantly during his time in the United States, emerging as a great passer in the playmaker role. We believe in his potential and want to support him in taking the right steps to continue growing and reach his full potential.”
