7 titles, 11 finals and a great future ahead

17/05/2024

Valencia Basket closed a dream season a few days ago after achieving the triplet of LF Endesa, Copa de la Reina and Super Cup in the same season. Three titles that join two other national and two European titles out of a total of seven that the women's section of the club has already accumulated in just 10 years of history, the last six in the top category. Not only that record, but also the continued presence in the finals, is a reflection of the dynasty that the Taronja Club is building little by little, which is already consolidating at the national level and which wants to extend its hegemony also at the European level. So far these are the accounts: EuroCup Women (2021), LF Endesa Super Cup (2021 and 2023), SuperCup Women (2021) and LF Endesa (2023 and 2024) and Copa de la Reina (2024).

If we refer only to the last four years, Valencia Basket has been present in nine of the 12 national finals that have been played. Of those nine finals, the Taronja team has won 5, which represents a high success rate. If we adjust further, in the last two years, there have been four titles in five finals of the six that have been at stake in Spain. That is, in the last two years Valencia Basket has only been absent in one Cup final and has only lost one Super Cup final. A huge success rate of 80%.

In Europe, of course, the road is longer. Although it is true that Valencia Basket has won both titles in the two European finals it has played: the EuroCup Women and the SuperCup Women. He raised this first in his second year in continental competition, nothing more and nothing less. The second was achieved only a few months later against the then all-powerful Yekaterinburg. The last two seasons the Taronja team has already been able to get among the best in Europe in the EuroLeague Women where the level is increasingly higher. In these two participations Valencia Basket has achieved qualification for the playoffs. This last season he considered getting back into the top eight, but the team's specific circumstances prevented him from arriving on time. Now, after demonstrating that the taronja club dominates in Spain, the next challenge is to continue growing in Europe. And towards that goal are the steps that Valencia Basket has taken on this journey already taken.

First of all, there is the continuity of the project. Rubén Burgos has closed his seventh season directing the first women's team with that record of seven titles to which is added promotion to the top category. The bulk of the squad, with a notable presence of national players such as Queralt Casas, Leticia Romero, Raquel Carrera or Cristina Ouviña, has been on the team for between four and five years, creating unity on and off the court. His record also includes those seven titles. They are not the only players who are beginning to add continuity, with the experience of Alba Torrens or the youth of Elena Buenavida as good examples among others.

Secondly, complete this already high-level squad with quality reinforcements. After the departure of Bec Allen, Valencia Basket incorporated one of the best players in Europe like Alina Iagupova, who provides extra competitiveness for both the national and European competition. And in the face of inconveniences, quick reactions. After Raquel Carrera's injury, Paula Ginzo reinforced the team to be able to maintain that level of energy and defense, which have been the cornerstone of achieving the great successes achieved.

And, finally, the Club's firm commitment to this project, without which these first two points would not be possible. The patronage of Juan Roig and Hortensia Herrero makes it a reality that the women's section of Valencia Basket continues to grow and that it continues to dream big, competing against any rival in any competition.
