Valencia Basket will try to extend its home winning streak in the Euroleague vs. Baskonia

07/03/2018

Valencia Basket repeats in the European competition in the Fonteta to receive its third Spanish rival in the current edition of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague, Baskonia, in a match corresponding to the round 25 (Thursday 8, 20: 30h, Fonteta, Movistar Sports 1) . The taronja squad won last week against Brose Bamberg to string their fourth home win in a row to set a new Club record in this competition. And a win against the Vitorians (those who have always won in the Euroleague game in the Fonteta) would expand even more.

With Guillem Vives and Latavious Williams already incorporated with relative normality to the group, the taronja team is pending of the physical state of Tibor Pleiss. The German center has been sidelined the last two games due to a plantar fasciitis in the right foot, but has been gradually incorporated into the practice and coach Vidorreta has been optimistic about the possibility of having him in the tomorrow’s game. In case that the German center can be in the roster tomorrow, Valencia Basket would have twelve pro players available for the first time since November 15. The taronja team took the victory in the match of the first leg by a score of 63-80, with 15 points from Erick Green and Tibor Pleiss as outstanding players. The men of Txus Vidorreta reach six games for the end of the Regular League three games away from the Playoffs, with a balance of 9 wins and 15 defeats and six wins in their last ten games.

That taronja win in Vitoria in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague round 3 led Pablo Prigioni to resign his position and as a result, Baskonia to sign Pedro Martinez. The Catalan coach returns for the first time to the Fonteta since that magical June 16, 2017 in which he was proclaimed champion of the Endesa League as Valencia Basket head coach. The Gasteiztarra team is the first of the teams that is outside the Play-off zone, a game away from Maccabi Tel Aviv, and although it has more defeats than victories in the games played in the second leg (four games won and five losses), has been able to get the win in four of their away-games. Georgian power forward Toko Shengelia leads a rival who will visit the Fonteta for an Euroleague game for the third time.
