Valencia Basket returns to Fonteta to host Partizan NIS Belgrade for the first time

16/10/2018

Valencia Basket returns home after chaining three away wins in a row to receive for the first time in their European career a historic as the Partizan NIS Belgrade (Wednesday 17, 20:45 hours, Fonteta, Teledeporte). The Taronja squad had never face this Serbian team despite the long history in common that have the two entities, with up to 12 players who have defended the colors of both teams. Valencia Basket will try to break its bad dynamic as a local against rivals of this nationality, since it has lost in the last two visits of a Serbian team to the Fonteta. Although he has never lost at home to a team of this nationality in EuroCup.

For this, coach Jaume Ponsarnau hopes to have Fernando San Emeterio, who could play his first minutes of the season in front of Fonteta’s crowd if the injury to his face that he suffered in Tuesday's practice does not stop him. The Balearic shooting guard Joan Sastre is still not recovered from acute low back pain that prevented him from participating in the match in Santiago, which will be out for this game along with the injured Rafa Martínez and Antoine Diot. Valencia Basket is provisional leader of group C of the 7DAYS EuroCup, with a balance of 2-0.

Jaume Ponsarnau analyzes the game

Valencia Basket coach said in the previous press conference that "we played against a team with a lot of history in Europe, with a lot of tradition. And that as throughout its history, has a lot of balance between young players and experts. Players with a lot of talent and also with great strength and good physique. A team that wants to play based on the ability of its backcourt players to go inside, with players that play very well in paint. We will have to try to defend very well all its penetration game, both in static defense and in the open field. And to control those players who will surely appear and control their inspiration collectively"
