Valencia Basket finished the first leg of the
Endesa League with a 79-86 defeat against Dreamland Gran Canaria in a tight and
decided in the end game with the visitors' accuracy in which they missed the
possibility of being seeded in the Copa del Rey draw. The taronja team started
from behind punished by the turnovers caused by the energy of the Canarian
team, but when they controlled that aspect they were effective in shooting to
achieve a 17-0 run that put them ahead on the scoreboard until Slaughter's points
balanced the game again and a good effort at the end of the first half allowed
Valencia Basket to leave with a small advantage at halftime. The yellow team
found the accuracy of its shooters to take the lead again in the third quarter
and although Valencia Basket balanced it again, Pelos' three-pointers gave the
visiting team a six-point lead entering the last five minutes. Another taronja
squeeze tied the game entering the last two minutes but two buckets by the
yellow team without a taronja reply and the final carousel of free throws ended
up giving the victory to Dreamland Gran Canaria.
