Power forward Marta Suárez (1.90m, Oviedo, May 7, 2002, age 24) has been presented as a new player for Valencia Basket for the next three seasons, through the 2028–29 season, at a ceremony held today in the Jardín del Roig Arena, sponsored by Caixa Popular, which has renewed its sponsorship through 2029.
The Spanish big woman came up through Siglo XXI, a prestigious training academy that has produced players such as Elena Buenavida, Helena Pueyo, and Javi Torralba, who was her coach. She then headed to the United States, where she competed in the college league. In her final season, she was a key player, averaging 17.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. In April, she was selected 16th overall in the WNBA draft. This summer, she has been competing in the U.S. league with the Phoenix Mercury, playing a total of 19 games.
In her first remarks, the new player expressed that she is “tremendously grateful to Valencia for giving me the opportunity to find a new home here in Spain and, above all, a club that is undertaking projects like the Roig Arena, which I believe is not only pioneering but also a club that is making an incredible commitment to sports—and women’s sports—at the European and international levels.”
