La Fonteta as an extra lung in a vital duel for the Copa del Rey against Baxi Manresa
Valencia Basket men's team returns to La Fonteta to play its third game in five days in a key duel for the aspirations of the Taronja team to be in the Copa del Rey against Baxi Manresa (Sunday 15, 5:00 p.m., Fonteta, Movistar Deportes 2) in a game corresponding to round 16 of the Endesa League.
A win would allow Álex Mumbrú's men to reach the last round of the first leg with the chance of qualifying for the tournament, while a defeat, coupled with the victory of two of the three teams that currently have eight wins, would definitively eliminate the chances to be at the Badalona event.
The game will be marked once again by the ability to recover from the accumulated fatigue (the team will return to the court 43 hours after the final buzzer of their game in France) against an opponent who has had the whole week to prepare for this clash.
And also for the Taronja infirmary, with six confirmed sidelined players (Rivero, Harper, Claver, Van Rossom, Hermannsson and Jiménez) and point guard Chris Jones off the roster in the two games that have been won this week due to the problems he is having in his right knee.
Therefore, having the support of La Fonteta will be a decisive aspect to try to close a perfect week despite all the difficulties. Maintaining the defensive improvement (the Taronja team has dropped in its last four games by almost six points from the average Valencia Basket was allowing in the rest of the season) against the team that plays at the fastest pace in the Endesa League will be another of the challenges of this game.
The precedents at home are favorable to the taronja team, which has won in the last eleven visits by the Bages team and has prevailed in 24 of the 30 games.
Valencia Basket begins this round located in 10th position with a balance of 7-8.
