The 2021-22 season raises the curtain with the semifinal of the Supercopa Endesa vs. Barça
Valencia Basket men's team opens the official season playing the Endesa Super Cup for the sixth time in its history and does so to face Barça in the first semifinal of the tournament (Saturday 11, 7:00 p.m., Santiago Martín, #Vamos). The Taronja squad traveled this morning to Tenerife with a roster in which the injured Louis Labeyrie, Neno Dimitrijevic, Xabi López-Arostegui and the last-minute injured Jasiel Rivero were absent. With only 8 pro-players, the youngsters from the LEB Plata team Guillem Ferrando, Millán Jiménez, Gonzalo Bressan and Alejandro Bellver complete the 12-man list. Mike Tobey and Klemen Prepelic, absent much of the preseason, did arrive in time to help the team in the fight for the first official title of the season. The men of Joan Peñarroya, who will debut tomorrow as a taronja coach in an official game, will have two practice sessions before the dispute of a match that will also mean the return of Víctor Claver to Valencia Basket nine years later (and to face the team from which it comes). The Taronja team will try to break their bad dynamics against Barça in this tournament, where they have lost on the three previous occasions in which these two teams have met in the Endesa Super Cup.
Barça comes to this first tournament of the season as current champion of the Endesa League and Copa del Rey and has kept most of its players from last year, making four signings. One of them, the Turkish center Sertaç Sanli, is questionable due to a fissure in the thumb of his left foot, while the former Pierre Oriola, who has not been able to participate in any of the preseason commitments, has entered the list of players for this tournament.
