Valencia Basket seeks to seal its ticket for the Copa del Rey at La Fonteta vs. Casademont Zaragoza

Valencia Basket men's team faces its third game in a row at La Fonteta with the intention of extending its good results against Casademont Zaragoza (Sunday 22, 5:00 p.m., Fonteta, Movistar Deportes 2) in a game that closes the first leg of the Endesa League.

 

The Taronja team will try to defend their current position within the top eight and certify their presence in the Copa del Rey in Badalona. A victory against the Aragonese would not mean it in a mathematical way, but it would bring it very close, since their rivals would not only have to win their games but also recover great disadvantages in the general basket average (Valencia Basket has +20, while Surne Bilbao Basket has -12, Río Breogán -31 and Monbús Obradoiro -44). The Taronja team can enter the Copa del Rey even losing, but for this, they would need none of the three teams mentioned above to win their game and remain the best overall basket average of all of them.

 

Although coach Mumbrú maintains the same five sidelined players as in Thursday's game (Rivero, Claver, Van Rossom, Hermannsson and Jiménez), this game could mean the debut as a taronja of the most recent signing, point guard Shannon Evans, who has been registered to play the Endesa League.

 

The precedents at home are favorable to the Taronja team, which has won in the last eight visits of the Zaragoza team and has prevailed in 14 of the 16 previous clashes.
