Valencia Basket- Baskonia pre-game quotes: Pedro Martínez
Liga Endesa round 29
Valencia Basket head coach Pedro Martínez appeared ahead of the game on the Liga Endesa round 29, where our men’s pro team will face Baskonia on the morning of Sunday the 27th.
With the primary goal of qualifying for the Playoffs already secured, the taronja coach is not thinking about new targets but is focused on continuing to improve:
“We have to stay on our path; we shouldn't be thinking about the standings, what we've already achieved, or what’s still to be achieved. We have to do things the right way. We’re playing at home, and that’s a responsibility for us — to do well in front of our fans and play the best game possible against a team we deeply respect. They're a very physical team, with players who have a lot of scoring ability, and we have to be very well prepared. It’s a very tough game for us”
After two wins in which his team managed to lower their opponents’ offensive production, and now facing a team packed with offensive talent, Pedro emphasizes:
“Every game brings different feelings, depending a bit on the opponent too. Hopefully, we can keep up a good defense and maintain a strong pace in attack with good accuracy. That’s always what we aim for, and it’s not something you achieve just by training more or less. It has to do with rhythm, with feeling, and also with the opponent”
The Valencia Basket coach said he is “sure that we’ll see the best Baskonia of the season. They’re a very dangerous team, with many players like Moneke and Sedekerskis, who is having an excellent season. Howard, of course, but also Luwawu-Cabarrot is playing at a very high level. So we have to be ready to play at our best and knowing that it’s going to be a very tough game”
When asked about Sergio De Larrea’s decision to commit to continuing his development with the team, Pedro Martínez called it “great news — first for Valencia Basket, and I believe also for the player. I think he’s made the right decision. I see it as very positive that a player with great potential and a bright future ahead has chosen to develop in an ACB team. He came here very young, played in our youth categories, and now, in the very difficult step of proving his talent at the professional level, he has chosen to bet on Valencia Basket. And we are delighted to help him improve and for him to serve as a great example of players who grow within the ACB League. Because the ACB League is not just a highly competitive league — its clubs also do a tremendous job developing players, and I believe Sergio De Larrea is a great example for many young players”
