Valencia Basket men’s team opens the second half of the EuroLeague season with the difficult challenge of visiting one of the toughest venues in the competition, that of Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade (Tuesday 6, 8:00 p.m., Aleksandar Nikolic Hall, Movistar+ Deportes 3), in a game corresponding to Round 20 of Europe’s top continental competition.
The orange-clad side will be looking for its first EuroLeague victory on the court of an opponent that has so far proved to be one of the strongest home teams, with eight wins in ten games in front of its fans, in a match that will mark the start of a demanding stretch of four games in seven days for Pedro Martínez’s men.
In the first-round meeting, Valencia Basket claimed a narrow 76–73 win in a tight contest in which the red-and-whites failed to take advantage of the final possession they had to tie the game or snatch the victory.
The matchup pits two of the best defenses in the competition against each other (the Serbian side ranks second in defensive efficiency with 1.10 points conceded per possession, while Valencia Basket is third with 1.11), in a clash between a Valencia team that leads the EuroLeague in three-pointers made and an opponent that most effectively reduces its rivals’ shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
Valencia Basket begins this round at the top of the EuroLeague standings with a 13–6 record.
