Valuable Victory in the Hell of Belgrade (89-106)

J20 EuroLeague

Valencia Basket opened the second half of the season with their first EuroLeague win, defeating Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade 89-106. They played an excellent first half, withstood the Serbian team's increased intensity after halftime, and ultimately responded with a run of their own between the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth quarter to secure a prestigious victory. They took the lead with a very focused and efficient first quarter, scoring 34 points and building an advantage with one of their strongest first halves of the season. The Serbian team responded immediately after the break with a 13-0 run led by Nwora, but Valencia Basket relied on Brancou to overcome this difficult period. Although Nwora reappeared to erase almost all of Valencia's lead, a strong finish to the third quarter allowed Valencia to take the lead heading into the final ten minutes. Pedro Martínez's men extended their run to 0-14 to put their advantage above twenty and did not stop attacking true to their style despite the local team's attempt at a comeback to secure the victory.

Quotes Pedro Martínez

“I think it was a great game for us, except for the start of the third quarter when we had a rough patch. Credit must be given to Nwora and Moneke, who played with great determination and character. We had a bad moment, but we managed our reaction very well at that point because it means a lot to us not only to win, but to be able to recover from those moments. We have a lot of respect for Red Star; either team could have won at home.”
